Terrorism Un-Islamic.

Posted by ajadhind on February 26, 2008

New Delhi – The Darul-Uloom Deoband in India, considered the most influential school for Islamic law in Asia, Monday denounced terrorism as against the teachings of Islam at a conference of clerics from India and abroad, news reports and officials said. The head of the powerful seminary, Maulana Marghoobur Rahman, said terrorism was completely wrong and thoughtless and contradicted Islam’s concept of peace, the NDTV network reported.
It was quoting from his address to 10,000 participants from religious schools – known as madrassas – and foreign delegates.
Speaking at the institution, some 150 kilometres north of New Delhi, Rahman also criticized the Indian government, saying that policing of madrassas and students was unjustified and went against the secular character of the country.
Although the conference did not see a fatwa being issued against terrorism, as news reports earlier indicated, observers said it was significant that Muslim groups adopted a declaration calling terrorism “un-Islamic” at the conclave.
“Islam is a religion of mercy for all humanity. Islam sternly condemns all kinds of oppression, violence and terrorism. It has regarded oppression, mischief, rioting and murder among severest sins and crimes,” the declaration stated.
“Islam prohibits killing of innocent people,” said the document adopted by the 10,000 participants.
Although the declaration would not be as binding as a fatwa, it was an important one – a “strong signal” against terrorism from an institution that has been blamed for inspiring conservative and radical Islamic movements.
The Deoband school was established in the late 19th century and has adherents from Afghanistan and Pakistan to the whole of South- East Asia. The Taliban have often claimed adherence to the Deoband seminary, which has been strongly denied by the scholars there.
The declaration at Deoband also criticized attempts to link Muslims and madrassas with terrorist acts. It noted with concern the present situation across the world in which a majority of a nations were adopting an adverse attitude towards Muslims.
“The disease (terrorism) has been diagnosed in a wrong way. Whenever any incident of terrorism happens, there is an effort to link it to Muslims or those studying in madrassas,” Deoband spokesman Adil Siddique told reporters.
“This is totally wrong. I must emphasize that the real disease must be diagnosed, then only is the cure possible,” Siddique said.

Somen : Naxal or innocent?

Posted by ajadhind on February 26, 2008

The Maoist leader, Somen, arrested by the West Bengal police on Saturday, is now in jail. He has been charged with sedition. But back at his home in Khardah in Kolkata’s suburbs, his wife and his mother refuse to believe he was waging a war against the state. As far as they know, Somen, whose real name is Himadri Sen Roy, was doing a sales job and traveling all the time.

The last time he visited home was 1993, after the birth of his son.

Two women, bound by a common fate, seeking comfort in each other’s company — mother Bina Pani who brought up her son Somen in great adversity and wife Shikha, who is now rearing their only son in equally impoverished circumstances.

”The allegations that have been leveled against him are completely baseless. I want to let the common people know that he is not an anti-national but a patriot,” said Shikha Sen Roy, Somen’s wife.

”I seek an immediate release of my son. I had lost my other son long ago. He was only 10 years old,” said Binapani Sen Roy, Somen’s mother.

The police believe Somen, who was arrested near Barasat on Saturday, is the secretary of Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-M) Bengal wing, the brain behind the recent killings of CPI-M leaders in Purulia, Bankura and West Midnapore districts and an expert in handling Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

But Somen’s childhood friends fondly remember him as an intelligent boy, baptized in Naxalite politics in the late sixties.

”He always wanted to work for the poor and ordinary people. He was always engaged in this kind of political activities.,” said Swapan Saha, Councillor, Khardah municipality.

Somen is languishing in jail for his innate belief in socio-economic equality for the downtrodden. His family members are now worried that he doesn’t meet Dr Binayak Sen’s fate for his political conviction

I began revolution with 82 men.

Posted by ajadhind on February 24, 2008

New Delhi: Cuban President and Commander-in-chief Fidel Castro has resigned.
“I began revolution with 82 men. If I had to do it again, I had to do it with 10 or 15 and absolute faith. It does not matter how small you are if you have faith and plan of action,” says Castro.
Fidel Elahandro Castro had both and a third attribute and perseverance.
On January 6, 1959, Castro walked into Havana, the Cuban capital unopposed. Hundreds had assembled there to hear him speak. It was the beginning of a long inning.
Two years later, Castro declared himself to be a Marxist/Lennonist.
The Soviet Union soon started deploying nuclear missiles on Cuban soil. This brought the world to the brink of a Nuclear War.
The crisis ended only after Soviet leader Nikita Cruz Chev agreed to withdraw the missiles.
By now his belligerently anti US stunts made him the number one enemy of the USA. The hate was mutual.
According to the Cuban government, the CIA has tried to assassinate Castro, no less than 600 times.
With the loss of Castro’s old trading partners and the continued US trade embargo, the Cuban economy went into a steep decline.
Cuba under Castro’s rule however, has made many impressive strides.
The country has 98 per cent literacy. In the last few years, Castro’s health had become an issue.
In 2001, Castro fell ill during the two-hour nationally broadcast speech. Shortly after the incident, Castro appointed his brother Raoul as his successor.
History might ask the question if he overstayed in power. But all said Castro will be remembered forever for his struggle against the capitalist US and as some might say, his long speeches and cigars.

Top Maoist leader, cadre arrested

Posted by ajadhind on February 24, 2008

In a major breakthrough, a top Maoist leader responsible for operations in West Bengal and neighbouring Orissa and Jharkhand was arrested by the CID alongwith another cadre on Saturday.

The CID, acting on a tip-off, arrested the 55-year old leader, known only by his first name Somen, from Hridaypur railway station in North 24 Parganas district, Rajeev Kumar, IG (Special Operations), CID said.

Somen, alias Bidhan, has been the West Bengal general secretary of the CPI (Maoist) for the last three years.

A resident of Khardah in North 24 Parganas district, Somen’s orginal name is Himadri Sen Roy, and is married, with a son studying in Class IX, sources said.

Starting his political life in the CPI(M), Somen joined the erstwhile People’s War Group some years back and now in the CPI(Maoist) as it is known after the merger of PWG and other naxalite outfits, they said.

After the arrest, the two cadres were taken to Badu and Madhyamgram, in the district for inquiry, and finally to Bhavani Bhavan, the CID headquarters in Kolkata.

Will India remain as a single nation?

Posted by ajadhind on February 18, 2008

The above question may look haphazard. But if people’s -more particularly politicians mind works in a same way as of now then my fear may come true.
Modi fought Gujrat elections with ‘Gujrat asmita’ as his trump card. Now Raj thackera is speaking about ‘ Marathi Manoos’. There is conflict between different states from long ago but nowadays turns to violent outbursts. Increased coverage from 24 hours news channel has added to these outbursts. Even a single incidence has been repeated so many times in news channels which gives an impression that the city is in turmoil when actually it is not.
Education should have increased the patience, morality of people. But the type of education we are recieving is a way just to earn our livelihood and nothing else. Theoritically increased education levels should decrease the violent outbursts and crime rates. Since the education has become competitive like a horse race people are losing patience. The stress, influence from media, unsettled life, frustration all adds up and is ending in crime. It may be school shootout in India / campus shootouts in USA – they are not signs of healthy society.
Is this the development pattern we need? If the tolerance level of people decreases at the present rate then India may divide once again in the near future.

Posted by ajadhind on February 18, 2008

Bhubaneswar: Backed by helicopters, Security forces killed at least 20 Naxals, including some women cadres, during continuing gun battles, a day after 14 policemen and a civilian died in Maoist attacks on police stations in Orissa’s Nayagarh district.
Three policemen however died during the intensive combing operation as hundreds of police and paramilitary personnel fanned to Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal and Rayagada districts after the coordinated strikes on three police stations, a police training school, an outpost and the district police armoury.
“We have information about killing of 20 Maoists and three jawans of Special Operation Group (SOG) during the combing operation,” Home Secretary T K Mishra said.
“We are in an offensive mode,” he added.
Refusing to divulge details, Mishra said the casualties among the naxals could be more. “But we have specific information about death of 20 ultras since yesterday,” said Mishra, adding that Additional Director General of Police, M M Praharaj was leading the operation which would continue “till the end.”
